The area between Hamasen and the First Dock is regarded as the busiest part of Kaohsiung Harbour. An abundance of watercraft including ferries, ships, naval vessels and small fishing boats help to complete the bustling image of Kaohsiung Harbour. The shoreline from Shouchuantou at Sizihwan(Western Bay) in the north to the Second Dock at Hong Mao Harbour in the south connects together like a beautiful blue necklace.
Since Mayor Chen began his current post at the government in February 2005, his focus has been on developing the rivers, ocean, and harbour. The development plan, known as the “Southern Star Plan,” entails beginning at Port No. 1 and working through to Port No. 12. Yencheng District, Hamasen, and the “International Tourist Centre” at Port No. 12 (the starting point of Love River) will also be redeveloped. Furthermore, the “Asia Pacific Pop Music Centre” is targeted as becoming the most prominent landmark of Kaohsiung.
