| The municipal government of Kaohsiung has recently made great strides in the effort to create an English-friendly living environment. By establishing the renowned “ English Village ” program in local schools, standardizing |
| translations of tourist spots, and heightening the English proficiency of citizens and government employees, Kaohsiung has now maturedinto a genuine international metropolis boasting one of the best bilingual living environments in Taiwan . |
| In like-minded fashion, and with the upcoming World Games in sight, Kaohsiung City Government is partnering with the Research Development, Evaluation Commission of the Executive Yuan, to promote the English Services Emblems Project throughout 2007. Kaohsiung City currently is the only local government promoting this project. In 2007, 88 restaurants, shops, vendors, hotels, and taxi drivers received the I“English Service Emblems” award. The Executive Yuan awarded the emblems of 3 stars,4 stars and 5 stars. The sight of these emblems, allows our valued visitors to |
easily recognize shops which can provide differing levels of English services. This webpage provides the links to 3 groups of bilingual websites showcasing the Emblem award recipients. |

Looking ahead, the City Government of Kaohsiung will also provide multifunctional marketing for the shops which have received the emblems. We truly desire that our valued foreign visitors are satisfied with the creation of the “English Service Emblems”standard and become the incentive to the local service industry to upgrade their services to an international level. With both public and private sector partnership, we will definitely fulfill our goal of becoming an international metropolis. Certainly, we are genuinely looking forward to welcoming our foreign visitors to the 2009 World Games |
by excellent advance preparation in the year preceding the event. |
