[Kaohsiung News] Typhoon Danas, the first typhoon to strike Taiwan this year, severely impacted Chiayi and Tainan. On July 7, Kaohsiung City immediately dispatched personnel to assist Chiayi. As of the morning of July 8, Kaohsiung had sent 113 personnel and 89 units of equipment to aid Chiayi County and City. During the municipal administrative meeting, Mayor Chen Chi-mai was briefed on the progress of disaster relief efforts to other administrative regions and expressed concern for post-disaster recovery within Kaohsiung. He tasked relevant departments to dispatch teams to clear fallen branches and debris from parks, remove fallen trees, loose iron sheets, and signage, and to conduct disinfection operations to prevent the breeding of dengue-carrying mosquitoes following the heavy rainfall.

Mayor Chen emphasized the importance of restoring the city’s appearance and ensuring public safety. He instructed the Parks Office of the Public Works Bureau and district offices to clear fallen branches and debris, and to carry out disinfection efforts to prevent dengue outbreaks. For areas with minor flooding, he called for a thorough investigation into the causes and targeted improvements in high-risk zones. He also urged the prompt removal, proper sorting, and recycling of typhoon-related debris, including dislodged signage, corrugated metal sheets, and other fallen materials.

As Typhoon Danas swept across Taiwan, Chiayi County and City were among the hardest hit. Demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and mutual aid, Kaohsiung promptly dispatched equipment and personnel to assist with relief efforts. Mayor Chen Chi-mai made an immediate call to express his concern and, after completing his inspection of local disaster sites on the 7th, personally drove to Chiayi that evening to visit the Kaohsiung team providing aid. He also offered words of encouragement to Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang and Chiayi City Mayor Huang Min-hui, both of whom expressed their deep gratitude to Mayor Chen and the Kaohsiung disaster relief team.

As of the morning of the 8th, Kaohsiung had deployed 113 personnel and 89 pieces of equipment to Chiayi, including 39 vehicles and 50 chainsaws. Mayor Chen also tasked Deputy Secretary-General Wang Chi-chuan with continuing to oversee Kaohsiung’s support operations in Chiayi. He extended his thanks to colleagues from the Public Works Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, Transportation Bureau, and Fire Bureau for promptly preparing manpower and machinery and swiftly mobilizing to assist with post-disaster cleanup and environmental recovery in Chiayi. This timely support reflects the spirit of intercity cooperation through concrete action. Mayor Chen expressed hope that everyone would remain united in rebuilding and protecting their communities.

In light of the intense summer heat and to safeguard public health, Mayor Chen instructed the Department of Health and consumer protection officials to enhance food preservation awareness and conduct sanitary inspections targeting food and beverage businesses. He also directed the Fire Department to strengthen public education on fire and electrical safety and to ensure regular fire safety inspections in high-risk areas such as factories. To prevent heat-related illnesses among outdoor workers, the Labor Affairs Bureau was asked to promote and supervise the implementation of protective measures by high-risk industries, ensuring labor safety.

Prior to the municipal administrative meeting, Mayor Chen also personally recognized the community development associations that received certification under the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s inaugural “Purple Ribbon Community Primary Prevention Accreditation and Incentive Program” for gender-based violence prevention. The recognized groups include Guangfu Community Development Association of Cishan District and Xingdong Community Development Association of Cianjhen District, both awarded two purple ribbons, and Xinfu Qiansui Community Development Association of Sanmin District, which was awarded one purple ribbon.
