[Kaohsiung News] “Trick or treat!” Before the start of the municipal administrative meeting on Oct 21, children and parents dressed in creative Halloween costumes joyfully interacted with Mayor Chen Chi-mai, who appeared in a “Captain” costume inspired by a popular animated film. The lively encounter served as a sneak preview of the 2025 Kaohsiung Halloween, organized by the Kaohsiung City Government Education Bureau, to be held from October 31 to November 2 at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying). Mayor Chen said the city government is making the best preparations to ensure this year’s event will be even more exciting and fun than before, adding that Weiwuying is the place to be for Halloween in Kaohsiung, and warmly invited families across Taiwan not to miss the festivities.

Mayor Chen noted that this year’s Halloween celebration will continue the excitement from last year, featuring the return of the 22-meter-tall giant pumpkin and a dazzling Pumpkin Light Show, now upgraded from 270 degrees to a full 360-degree spectacle with even more impressive lighting effects and creative visual displays. The spacious and convenient National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) provides the perfect venue for the festivities. On November 1, the much-anticipated Tombstone Parade by the Leofoo Village theme park team will also take place, with 10,000 limited-edition inflatable wristbands distributed to participants on-site.

During the municipal administrative meeting, the Education Bureau presented the event’s plans, announcing that this year’s festival will expand in scale and community involvement. In addition to the ever-popular “Giant Pumpkin” attraction, the program will feature a Halloween market, creative costume parade, immersive decorations, and themed booths in collaboration with local schools and neighborhoods. The event also ties in with the Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau’s “Wild Wild” campaign and Weiwuying’s “Spooky Market” event, blending outdoor indie style with spooky Halloween aesthetics across more than 100 market stalls. The Bureau encourages visitors to use public transportation and follow the official Facebook page of the Kaohsiung Education Bureau for the latest updates and event details.

Mayor Chen also expressed his appreciation to various city departments and agencies for their joint efforts during the BLACKPINK concert, which successfully concluded last weekend. The Police Department, Transportation Bureau, and Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Corporation worked tirelessly to manage traffic and transportation, while the Economic Development Bureau and Bureau of Cultural Affairs supported related activities. The Sports Development Bureau assisted with venue coordination, and the Environmental Protection Bureau maintained a clean and orderly environment throughout the event.
