[Kaohsiung News] The Kaohsiung City Government convened its municipal administrative meeting at the Net Zero Institute on August 20, presided over by Mayor Chen Chi-mai. In his address, Mayor Chen underscored the city's exciting and successful summer events and highlighted upcoming attractions, including the Dagang Creative Raft Competition and the Taiwan-Japan Fruit Festival, and invited people of all ages to join in the fun summer activities.
Prior to the meeting, Professor Tsai Tsong-han from the Department of Computer Science & Information Engineering at National Central University provided a presentation on the "NSTC Taiwanese Mandarin Large Language Model Project – TAIDE Development Experience and Introduction." This session focused on how emerging technologies, particularly large language models (LLMs), can revolutionize municipal governance and enhance public service efficacy in the era of artificial intelligence.
Mayor Chen enthusiastically promoted the upcoming weekend events, noting the positive response to the Dagang Creative Raft Competition held during this year's Lantern Festival. The event will return to Dagang Bridge this weekend, with over a hundred teams registered to compete. With some already issuing challenges online, Mayor Chen humorously quipped, "The challenge is on!" and urged everyone to look forward to the creation of an unbeatable fleet. Meanwhile, the Taiwan-Japan Fruit Festival will take place at the Kaohsiung Music Center Plaza, featuring well-known influencers, various stalls, and interactive games, offering consumers a chance to enjoy high-quality fruits from both Taiwan and Japan. The event will also foster bilateral exchange and "fruit diplomacy," with everyone welcome to attend.
During the municipal meeting, Mayor Chen also reminded everyone that recent rains have created conditions conducive to the breeding of disease-carrying mosquitoes. He directed the Department of Health, the Environmental Protection Bureau, and the Civil Affairs Bureau to intensify inspections of high-risk areas such as construction sites, markets, vacant lots, and parks to eliminate breeding sources and monitor mosquito density. He also called on communities and residents to clean up their surroundings, remove standing water, and maintain a sanitary home environment.
The city government is continuing to hold AI-related courses. Before the meeting, Professor Tsai Tsong-han was invited to present on the topic "NSTC Taiwanese Mandarin Large Language Model Project – TAIDE Development Experience and Introduction." He explained how LLMs can be leveraged to develop a "Trustworthy AI Dialogue Engine (TAIDE)" tailored for Taiwan, providing a dialogue model that can be applied to government or industry-specific needs. Mayor Chen emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation in AI knowledge to optimize municipal governance and administrative efficiency in the AI era.
