[Kaohsiung News] On October 22, the city municipal administrative meeting was held at the Net Zero Institute, where Mayor Chen Chi-mai and “Granny Fruity Pie” surprised the audience by arriving in Halloween-themed costumes. Cheerful mascots also made an appearance, delighting children and adults alike with candy and engaging interactions. Together, they excitedly shouted, “O Great Pumpkin, let’s get spooky and have fun!” kick-starting this year’s Halloween festivities with a fun-filled preview of the exciting events to come.
Mayor Chen announced that this year’s Halloween will be especially exciting, featuring lighting displays, light sculpture shows, and a costume parade. There will also be performances by various groups, including PTS XS, On. P. Young, Australia’s Curious Legends, and parade teams from different schools. Everyone, both children and adults, is invited to join in the festivities.
Mayor Chen even revealed that this year’s highlight will be a massive 22-meter-tall pumpkin, even bigger than the famous Yellow Rubber Duck, promising an unforgettable spectacle. He kept the rest under wraps, playfully hinting that Kaohsiung is a city full of surprises and inviting families to come experience the festive atmosphere. Granny Fruity Pie also mentioned that there will be a giant pumpkin, large gashapon machines, stage performances, and street graffiti art, warmly welcoming children to join in the fun.
Regarding his costume for the event, Chen Chi-mai kept it under wraps, stating that Halloween is a celebration for everyone, where each person is a participant. He encouraged creativity and imagination, while also highlighting the importance of parent-child interaction to create unforgettable memories.
At the Net Zero Institute, Mayor Chen, full of youthful energy, swooped around the children in his flowing black cape. Someone was also dressed in yellow monk robes, adding to the fun. Chen humorously called him the "Net Zero Master," purifying hearts and souls, as the event gathered a variety of characters, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere filled with laughter.
In line with Kaohsiung's continued focus on AI applications in municipal governance, the city invited Allen Own, co-founder and CEO of DEVCORE, to deliver a keynote speech on "AI from a Cybersecurity Perspective" during the municipal administrative meeting on October 22. Own’s presentation explored harnessing the power of AI in cyber defense and offense, and how training drills can improve the public sector's cybersecurity capabilities. Chen pointed out that as AI becomes more integrated into various services, hacker attacks are becoming more diverse, frequent, and complex. He emphasized the importance of understanding AI's role in both cyberattacks and defense, aiming to strengthen the city's team's knowledge of AI and cybersecurity.
