[Kaohsiung News] On September 3, the Kaohsiung City Government held its 690th municipal administrative meeting, during which the Agriculture Bureau presented a report on "Building the Kaohsiung Agrinfo Ecosystem." The report outlined efforts to develop smart services, provide digitalized disaster prevention information, and offer subsidies for smart farming solutions. The initiative aims to establish a local smart agriculture ecosystem. Mayor Chen Chi-mai emphasized that in addition to ongoing smart agriculture support, Agrinfo should establish a comprehensive business model to assist farmers in operating efficiently, selling their products, and even expanding solutions to international markets.
In response to global challenges such as extreme climate conditions and labor shortages, the city government has been actively promoting smart agriculture since 2021 with the launch of Agrinfo. This industry-government-academia collaboration has brought together more than 20 companies and government entities, forming the Smart Agriculture Alliance to provide free smart services to farmers. These services include hourly disaster alerts for 64 crops, daily analysis of over 300 agricultural production and sales data points, and bi-weekly local agricultural weather broadcasts. The platform now has been enrolling more than 7,700 users and has received multiple domestic and international awards.
Chen Chi-mai stressed the importance of making Agrinfo’s interface more user-friendly, which will help increase its user base. He also highlighted the need to enhance the platform's business model to create more avenues for selling agricultural products. Addressing Kaohsiung's dengue prevention efforts, Chen mentioned that dengue fever remains the city’s biggest challenge. He suggested that the city’s Department of Health could reference the Agriculture Bureau's smart agriculture model that leverages AI technology to monitor environmental factors such as temperature and humidity, and analyze historical data on mosquito density for more effective dengue control.
In anticipation of upcoming large-scale concerts such as the Bruno Mars and Energy performances, Mayor Chen instructed all relevant departments to be on high alert. He emphasized the need for proper waste management and environmental cleanliness at popular tourist spots like Pier-2 Art Center, Cijin Beach, and along the MRT line near shopping malls, with the Environmental Protection Bureau and Department of Tourism taking the lead. The Sports Development Bureau and Police Department were also tasked with ensuring safety. The Transportation Bureau should pay attention to crowd dispersal measures after events—including shuttle buses—which should align with concertgoers' departure times. If the shuttle service is insufficient, additional support must be provided to ensure smooth operations and an optimized SOPs for large-scale events.
Regarding the Mid-Autumn Festival activities, Mayor Chen also reminded the city government's food safety team to intensify the health and safety inspections of seasonal foods sold in local markets. Moreover, he called on the Public Works Bureau's Parks Office to increase public awareness about avoiding barbecues and the use of fireworks in parks and green spaces. He also emphasized the need for the Fire Bureau to intensify its fire safety outreach to the community.
