Kaohsiung’s VR developer “Pumpkin Studio” has received good news. With the city government’s counseling, the studio has successfully entered the experience store of SEGA Game Factory in Akihabara, Japan, at the end of September. From tomorrow (12th Oct.), the products of Pumpkin Studio can be seen in the well-known shopping mall AEON in Tokyo. The export of Kaohsiung’s VR entertainment industry has taken a big step forward!

Pumpkin Studio’s first VR interactive movie “Taboo” is a multiplayer horror game with a 210-degree ultra-wide viewing angle and a high-quality head-mounted display to create a more realistic virtual reality experience. Multilingual versions such as Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean are available for players to choose from. Liao Yi-hsiang, CEO of Pumpkin Studio, said that the cooperation with SEGA, the leading brand of Japanese chain playgrounds, is an important milestone for the company to expand into the international market. Through cross-border cooperation, the VR technology and products from Kaohsiung can continue to be promoted overseas. Three VR games are under development now and are expected to be released early next year, of which the marketing strategy will replicate the current business model to North America, Europe, Southeast Asia and other markets.

According to Li Yi-de, Director-general of the Economic Development Bureau, Kaohsiung has been promoting the digital content industry since 2010. A large number of young people have been involved in related fields. Since the establishment of Pumpkin Studio in 2016, it has been counseled by the city government for 2 years. The team members have gradually expanded from 5 to more than 10 people. The average age of members is less than 30 years old. Finally, they received a fruitful result and jumped onto the international stage. In the future, the city government will continue to provide more breeding spaces and experimental fields for start-ups in order to accelerate product verification and to organize business matching platforms to help manufacturers open the overseas markets.
