As the temperature of life on Earth steadily rises, the Transportation Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government is at the forefront of a new era of low-carbon commuting and lifestyle. With the launch of the NT$399 TPASS Commuting Monthly Pass for Kaohsiung City or the NT$999 TPASS Commuting Monthly Pass for Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, the Transportation Bureau has been at the forefront of making Wednesdays “Wednesday Public Transportation Day” since August 9 this year by encouraging Transportation Bureau employees to commute to and from work every Wednesday by public transportation instead of personal transportation, hence saving both energy and money and preventing traffic congestion.

According to the Transportation Bureau, employees are discouraged from using private transportation modes such as automobiles and motorcycles to commute to and from work every Wednesday, and are instead encouraged to utilize public transportation. Currently, the daily cost of the NT$399 TPASS Commuting Monthly Pass for Kaohsiung City is only NT$13, and is applicable to MRTs, buses, light rail, ferries, 30 minutes of unlimited access to YouBike, etc. In addition, from July 1, this scope was expanded to include Taiwan Railways in the City. In addition, the NT$999 TPASS Commuting Monthly Pass for Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, which is valid on the MRT, Taiwan Railways, city buses (many-seater taxis), highway buses, YouBikes (free for the first 30 minutes), and ferries, has been heavily promoted recently. For only NT$33 per day, it is now possible to commute to and from the life circles in three major cities in southern Taiwan.

According to the Transportation Bureau, Kaohsiung City has rebates in response to its public transportation policy. The MeN Go system calculates the amount of carbon emissions saved automatically. If the cumulative carbon reduction reaches six tons, a free one-month monthly pass will be provided as a preferential offer. The Transportation Bureau is encouraging Kaohsiung residents to work together to make the city a model of green footsteps.
