    【Kaohsiung News】The ITS Asia-Pacific sent out the Award Announcement Letter in Tokyo Japan. The Kaohsiung City Government has been awarded the 2022 ITS World Congress Hall of Fame - Local Government Award scheduled to be held at the 28th Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress (ITS World Congress) on September 18~22 in Los Angeles (U.S.A.) where the Kaohsiung City Government will be awarded and commended internationally.

    The ITS World Congress is the largest international event in the field of intelligent transportation system (ITS). Europe, Americas and the Asia Pacific region take turns to hold the annual event. The World Congress covers forums, exhibitions, displays, visitations and other activities, attracting more than 10,000 people from more than 70 countries every year to attend the grand event. Each region also selects a personal lifetime achievement award, a local government lifetime achievement award and industry lifetime achievement award recipients every year to be presented at the World Congress. The Kaohsiung City Government has stood out from the many cities in 11 member states, winning the honor of the ITS World Congress Hall of Fame - Local Government Award.

    Kaohsiung City has successively won international awards for its traffic construction results in 2022, including the APEC ESCI 2022 Smart Transport silver medal, IDC Smart City Asia Pacific Award and the ITS World Congress Hall of Fame - Local Government Award.

    Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chi-mai pointed out that upon approval of the “Asia New Bay Area 5G AIoT Promotion Plan” by the Executive Yuan in May 2021, he requested the city government to actively devise ways to build Kaohsiung into a smart city in the field of innovative experiments. In particular, in addition to transportation being closely related to the city residents’ right to transportation access, it is also the best catalyst for the development of smart cities. The Transportation Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government shall continue to develop safe, smart, and sustainable transportation services through ITS.

    According to Vice Mayor Lin Chin-jung, Kaohsiung has been moving toward green, smart and sustainable urban development, promoting “putting people first” and encouraging sharing and the effective utilization of public transportation services. As the hub of life and economy in southern Taiwan, Kaohsiung takes on the mission of transportation with uttermost importance. It also aims to position itself as an ITS innovative life laboratory to encourage various innovative applications to take root in Kaohsiung.

    The Transportation Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government continues to import the Internet of Vehicle (IoV), artificial intelligence (AI), e-payment, smart electric buses and other advanced ITS technologies. “Smart junction anti-collision, emergency vehicles having the right of way, AI signal control systems, road user behavior management and technological law enforcement, MeNGo MaaS services combined with “all-vehicle cardless payment with QR code,” bicycle sharing, electric scooter sharing, reservation and sharing-based Demand Responsive Transportation System (DRTS) in remote towns and other innovative transportation services have undergone development. ITS technology continues to reach out and expand, holding an open attitude toward improving transport and becoming a new benchmark in the city’s ITS development.

    In international collaboration, Kaohsiung City has also signed a cooperation MOU on MeNGo MaaS with Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. and the All Nippon Airways (ANA) to open up an innovative mode of exchange between Taiwan and Japan and open a new chapter of tourism and travel between Taiwan and Japan in the post-epidemic era, thereby boosting the output and development of the industries related to personalized intelligent transportation travel services.
