[Kaohsiung News] Recently, the local newspaper has revealed that the left turn box for motorcycles at the intersection of Demin Rd. and 1872 Lane of Gaonan Highway in Nantz District is too small. The Transportation Bureau has invited the Public Works Bureau and the Police Department to inspect the left turn box. On March 4, the Road Maintenance Office of the Public Works Bureau started the work to extend the motorcycle left turn box to its maximum size according to the local conditions and to improve the traffic guidance signs.
The original left turn box was 5 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. In order to guide and improve cyclists' access to the recessed left turn box, the City Government has extended the left turn box without relocating the trees and at the same time, marked the border line of the road to improve the traffic flow in and out of the left turn box.
The Transportation Bureau said that after the opening of the Demin Bridge in 2010, it set up a refuge island and a recessed left turn box at the intersection, and a similar situation exists at the intersection of Demin Road and Alley 57, Lane 1870, Gaonan Highway. The left turn box is set up in front of the entrance to the factory. The sidewalk is missing a ramp, which will be improved as well.
The Transportation Department commented that the City Government will continue to make efforts to create a safe and convenient road and at the same time, it also urges the citizens to always follow the traffic rules and pay attention to their safety when crossing the intersections.
