【Kaohsiung News】The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) added the Taxi Bus(DRTS Taxi) in Daai Park in Shan Lin to and from Taoyuan Meishan and Baoshan routes on July 5 in order to accommodate the basic local transportation and provide more convenient transportation services.
Since 2019, the “Taxi Bus” service in Kaohsiung City has penetrated remote areas with fares equivalent to that of city buses. From 2021 to 2022, medical referral routes in indigenous regions were even established to provide convenient transportation services. The routes have now reached 61, covering 33 administrative districts in Kaohsiung. In 2022, the traffic volume reached 169,000 people, a 17% increase over 2021.
In response to Daan Park residents’ transportation needs to and from the Taoyuan District tribes, the Transportation Bureau launched two routes on July 5: the T517B (to and from Taoyuan Meishan) and the T518B (to and from Taoyuan Baoshan) to provide the general public with more convenient transportation services.
According to the Transportation Bureau, a Taxi Bus is a creative and flexible transportation service that combines the benefits of taxis and buses, catering to the remote area people’s right to transportation for medical care, grocery shopping, work and school. In January 2022, the “Happy Sharing Kaohsiung GO” was launched, integrating multiple vehicles, organizing happy transportation operating service centers and local needs notification networks, introducing remove multiple mode matching service models and reservation platforms, and providing transportation pick-up and delivery services to people in the Meinong living circle. The services were expanded to the Shanlin area in 2023. By the end of June 2023, more than 11,500 scheduled bus runs had been provided, exceeding a total traffic volume of 35,000 passengers. This year, services will be extended to the Liouguei and Neimen areas.
In addition, in order to encourage more people to use public transportation, the Transportation Bureau introduced the City NT$399 Commuter Monthly Pass on April 27 and the Tainan-Kaohsiung-Pingtung NT$999 Commuter Monthly Pass on July 1. In addition to unlimited access to MRT, buses, light rail, ferries, and YouBike for the first 30 minutes, it is also valid for Taxi Bus and happiness sharing Kaohsiung GO. Traveling from remote areas to the city with a single pass allows for a more convenient and seamless transit shuttle, allowing people to enjoy green living and respond to important issues such as energy conservation and carbon reduction.
