    Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Industrial High School Affiliated Parking Garage Breaks Ground to Meet Parking Needs of Light Rail Transit and Yellow Line Print

    The Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Industrial High School affiliated parking garage will break ground on the 20th. The Kaohsiung City Government will invest TWD 590 million to construct a 5-storey smart parking garage in the the Wanzinei and Baoju borough area, which can accommodate 470 passenger cars and 200 motorbikes. This will alleviate the problem of inadequate parking spaces over the past decades. The future parking needs of the Light Rail Transit and Kaohsiung Metro Yellow Line rides can also be met, thereby promoting the development of public transportation.
    According to Mayor Chen Chi-mai, the Wanzinei and Baoju borough area is the built-up area with densely packed residential houses and flourishing business streets. Inadequate parking spaces has been a problem over the past decades. In response to the parking needs of the Light Rail Transit and future yellow line rides, the Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government has been specially instructed to construct a three-dimensional parking space to resolve the problem of difficulty in finding a parking space long reported by the residents.
    In November 2020, the Kaohsiung City Government announced the Two-phase Light Rail Transit optimization plan. It was declared that at the time of the Light Rail Transit resuming operations that the Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government had formulated multiple parking supply strategies, including the Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Industrial High School Affiliated Parking Garage, setting up public parking lots on lands designated for public facilities, assisting private businesses in setting up public parking lots, etc. An additional 1,332 parking spaces for passenger cars and 1,688 parking spaces for motorbikes will be designated. 
    During the process of parking garage venue selection, in consideration of the high ride demand of the Kaohsiung Metro Yellow Line and Light Rail Transit after setting up stations at the junction of Dashun Rd. and Jiangong Rd., a parking garage was constructed in the Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Industrial High School space. The Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government commenced planning and design in 2021 and completed the tender in February 2022. After breaking ground on the 20th, the parking garage will be completed and opened at the end of 2023 in conjunction with the opening date of the Light Rail Transit (Chengyuan). In the future, the parking garage will accommodate 470 passenger cars and 200 motorbikes, thereby improving surrounding parking and meeting the local and future ride and park needs of the C28 Station and the C29 Station and the Kaohsiung Metro Yellow Line Y8 Station. 
    In response to the developmental needs of the semiconductor technology industry, smart material industry and supply chain a convenient transportation network is an important factor for Kaohsiung situated at the core and hub of Taiwan's tech corridor in achieving urban development and industrial structure renewal. In particular, in terms of rail transport, the full length of Circular LRT is to open to traffic by the end of 2023, while the Yellow Line will start construction at the end of the year. In addition to introducing environmental protection and a green building, the parking garage project will also include the set up of a smart parking management service system, which will be completed and open for use next year (2023). A high-quality, energy-saving, convenient parking environment is expected to be created for the city residents.
