The way to prevent collective forgetting:
Let’s enjoy a time travel with museum collections!

As the times change, the skyline of each city changes, and so does that of Kaohsiung. Since ancient times, artists of all eras have responded actively to the world around them, and they have used their brushes or cameras to record the landscapes in front of them. The landscapes leave an impression on people, like a stylus lightly moving along the grooves on a record. When time passes by imperceptibly, all our familiar scenes will gradually disappear or be replaced by new buildings. We will eventually live in a world which is completely unfamiliar to us.

Like other museums in the world, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts holds rich collections of art works which witness the changes of times and places. These works are like coordinates, which not only indicate the geographical location of the museum but also show its existential values. In the collections, various works related to this city, including more than one hundred landscape paintings and photographs of Kaohsiung, have been gradually accumulated, becoming an important local history database which will be irreplaceable.

While the Kaohsiung City Government holds a series of Kaohsiung 100 celebration, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (KMFA) presents Reading the Landscape: Time Travelling with Museum Collections, which include Kaohsiung Landscape on Stone Drums and Experiential Exhibition of the Collections from KMFA. With the art works from the KMFA collection, a memory corridor full of local signs is formed, leading viewers to enjoy a time travel from past to present of Kaohsiung.

While some scenes can still be seen, while they can still be felt, and while they can still be remembered, let us re-explore the memories of the times which belong to the residents of Kaohsiung.
