[Kaohsiung News] The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. The Kaohsiung City Government is holding dragon boat races at both the Love River and Linyuan District. The progress of the planning was presented during the municipal administrative meeting on May 28 by the city government’s Sports Development Bureau and Civil Affairs Bureau. Mayor Chen Chi-Mai commended the Sports Development Bureau for incorporating innovative highlights and sports tourism into the event and stressed the importance of setting up the event environment and venues properly to welcome participants and visitors. After a four-year hiatus, the nighttime dragon boat races are making a comeback at the Love River. Mayor Chen particularly cautioned the Bureau to have the lighting and safety measures ready for these events. He extended an invitation to all to join in the Dragon Boat Festival celebrations in Kaohsiung for a joyful holiday.
After a report on annual capital expenditures by the Department of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Mayor Chen noted that the execution rate for 2024 reached 94.91%. He instructed all relevant authorities to accelerate their contracting processes and closely monitor projects that are lagging, with the aim to ensure an execution rate above 90% to complete municipal projects soon enhancing services for the citizens.
Moreover, Mayor Chen officiated the swearing-in ceremony for Kaohsiung's new Deputy Mayor, Lee Huai-Jen. He expressed his anticipation for Lee and other members of the municipal team to push forward at full throttle in advancing the development and progress of Kaohsiung.
