[News of Kaohsiung] Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government offers further transit discounts starting from October 1, 2018 to encourage the use of public transportation. All passengers traveling with Electronic Stored Value Cards who transfer from LRT, intercity bus, and city bus to city bus within 2 hours are entitled to a one-zone fare discount; all passengers traveling with iPass who transfer from LRT, intercity bus, and city bus to intercity bus within 2 hours are entitled to a NT$12 discount. Transfers from MRT to intercity bus or city bus may still enjoy a NT$3 discount.

To raise the incentive for using public transportation, said Director-General Huang Wan-Fa of Transportation Bureau, transfers from LRT, intercity bus, and city bus to city bus with an iPass would enjoy a one-zone fare discount, and transfers to intercity bus a NT$12 discount from October 1 onwards. These discounts are offered on top of the original offers of the two-zone fare ceiling for city buses and the maximum self-pay fare of NT$60 for intercity buses.
Transportation Bureau further explained that these transfer discounts are simultaneously applicable with the two-zone fare ceiling. The transfer discount for free bus ride will apply first, and then the two-zone fare ceiling will be offered subject to the bus fare already paid, based on the card reader’s judgment on the bus. In other words, when passengers enjoy the free bus ride upon transfer, the bus ride does not count towards the number of rides for the maximum two-zone fare since bus fare is not deducted for that ride. Passengers traveling with an ordinary iPass or student iPass may enjoy the free city bus ride only after having paid for two zones’ fare. Transportation Bureau reminds passengers to use the Kaohsiung iBus App for a fast check of the real-time bus status to reduce waiting time.
