Kaohsiung – The Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government and Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTC) have jointly launched the monthly pass program “Unlimited MRT/Bus Rides in the Greater Kaohsiung Area,” which is available at a discounted price of NT$1,600. Another program, available at as low as NT$672, features MRT rides between specified stations, unlimited city bus rides, and the first 30 minutes free bonus for C-bikes. On April 1, the Transportation Bureau also launched bus monthly passes that allow adult passengers and students to take unlimited rides on city buses for NT$479 and NT$399, respectively. Starting from April 1, the monthly passes can be purchased at the service counters of all MRT stations in Kaohsiung. All citizens are welcome to take advantage of these programs.
The Transportation Bureau said it is cooperating with KRTC to launch the “Unlimited MRT/Bus Rides in the Greater Kaohsiung Area” program in an effort to meet the needs of commuters or passengers who often travel between certain locations. This program includes a special offer for unlimited rides between stations – the monthly rate for MRT rides between two specified stations remains the same and passengers can enjoy unlimited rides on city buses for free. This monthly pass costs less than NT$1,600 if the commute distance is within 15 km. The monthly pass for trips between any stations that are located between Gangshan South Station and Kaohsiung Arena Station on the Red Line costs less than NT$1,600, while that for trips between any stations on the Orange Line is less than NT$1,600. The rate for rides between stations depends on the needs of the public. For rides between Formosa Boulevard Station and Kaohsiung Arena Station, Kaisyuan Station, Sizihwan Station, and Fongshan West Station, the rate is as low as NT$672, plus unlimited city bus rides and first 30 minutes free for C-bikes.
Starting from April 1, the unlimited city bus passes (excluding intercity buses 8XXX, express buses, medical buses, cultural buses, Taiwan Tourist Shuttle routes, and routes not within the jurisdiction of the city government) will be available to adult passengers and students for NT$479 and NT$399, respectively. People can purchase the passes and specify the stations at the service counters of all the MRT stations. The Transportation Bureau also reminds passengers using the passes of the need to swipe their passes when getting on and off a city bus. If they fail to swipe their passes when getting on or off a bus, their passes will be locked, and they will have to pay an extra $12 to unlock their passes during their next city bus ride. Moreover, passengers can use the “Kaohsiung iBus” app to reduce waiting times and reach their destinations faster.
